‘Botanic’ is Lea Banchereau's first solo show and was on view at Soho Photo Gallery in April 2023.
The focal point of ‘Botanic’ are the details and shapes of different plants and flowers. In my work, I use photography as a way to transform familiar subjects into unfamiliar ones. The works of this series focus on the beautiful details of oriental lilies and other flowers, while also emphasizing the unique imperfections of film photography. The 15 images are so tightly cropped that they evoke the sense of a puzzle that can never fully be solved and leaves the viewer with the ambiguity of never seeing the full picture. The true meaning of each photograph remains just out of reach.
‘Botanic’ was digitally printed on handmade recycled cotton paper and shot on
black and white 35mm film.
