‘Escapism’ explores the feeling of longing for the past by capturing the quiet moments, the in-betweens of a dream-like setting. From seascapes glistening under the sun, to palm trees caught in the summer rain, each image evokes a specific feeling, allowing the viewer to escape from reality.
With poetic transformation, ’escapism’ turns mundane landscapes into motifs that offer a different take on travel photography.
Each photograph goes beyond the narrative and explores the relationship between abstract and concrete photography. Some images transport the viewer to far away places while others leave the viewer with the ambiguity of not seeing the full picture - becoming an abstract escape from a concrete reality.
This series was shot on black and white 35mm film in Mexico and Tanzania.
